Research

Some people procrastinate by talking, sleeping, watching television, reading, taking extra unnecessary courses in the field they are meant to be working in, and of course, the inevitable cleaning the house—just to name a few!

I am guilty of all of the above; however, my current favourite, by a long shot, is researching. When I say ‘research,’ what I mean is that I spend hours reading, creating beautiful folders and writing up important information about a book that I am trying to write. The problem is, I have written a lot about what I will write, without actually writing it!

I asked myself this very serious question today: “How much research will you ‘procrastinate’ with, before you get your project started, your book drafted, your writing written and your work actually done?”

It’s become a loaded question and it’s not the first time I have asked myself this!

Why do we often procrastinate with the things that we feel most convicted to do?

Is it fear, a sense of inability, or a constant struggle to feel we are worthy of the task?

Is it lack of time, busyness, sickness, anxiety, depression?

I can say with certainty, it is not laziness, carelessness, or disinterest.

If you are anything like me, take heart and have faith! Please have fun researching, take time to think carefully about what you are doing for God, have down-time to read, watch television and keep the house in some kind of order… Work through your fears, insecurities and struggles; however, remember to also step forward and get that work actually done!

In all the hard stuff, keep in mind that it will be worth it. God is right by your side mentoring you through and you will gain a great blessing from it.
